About this video: What are mistakes football players make? Well, there are certainly many. However, remember that mistakes are fine and necessary to a certain degree. We can learn so much from our soccer mistakes!

That being said, we want to do our best to avoid them as well or at least learn quickly from them! This video is all about avoiding the worst football mistakes you can make while training! Making these mistakes can result in injuries, inadequate training sessions, and wasted time.

#1) How many teammates do you know that almost never warm up or give half effort it when they do? Are you that player?

If you are, you’ll want to stop doing that immediately. Take your warm up seriously and never skip it. Yes, it can be boring, but it will help prevent injury and improve your footballing performance.

I actually sustained a bad back injury in college when I didn’t warm up properly. It led to 8 months out and I’ve had issues with my back for years because of it… all because I didn’t warm up. Don’t make the same mistake.

#2) Can intensity be something very beneficial? Yes! Should it be something you do every training session? HELL NO!

Remember that consistency trumps intensity almost every time. You want to stay 100% focused during training and do the best you can, but that doesn’t mean you should be exhausted at the end of every session. In fact, it would be detrimental to do that.

You want to get into flow state every session, and end around the time you are coming out of that state. Most things beyond that will result in diminishing returns!

#3) This next one is something way too many footballers fall into and is one of the biggest mistakes soccer players make when training, and that is going through the motions.

Unless you are 100% focused, deliberate, and giving it your best during training, you are not getting much out of it.

Going through the motions will destroy your training. It will cause very slow progress when you could be making much more!

#4) Finally, don’t avoid the hard stuff. Yes, it can suck (although you can learn to love it) to do cardio, strength training and other things that don’t involve the ball but you have to do.

It can also suck to do things with the ball that you’re not good at.

No one is saying you have to be amazing right away at the things you’re not good at. But if you are consistent with those things and you don’t skip them, you will become a much better soccer player.

Don’t skip the hard stuff. It’s important!
